After a full year in office, most of it without a balanced budget from lawmakers, Illinois’ governor says the number one issue is growing the economy.
Republican Governor Bruce Rauner says he has accomplished a lot: saving taxpayers millions in government operations, increasing funding for early education, and what he says are innovated new contracts with over a dozen employee unions that includes merit pay. However the governor says he’s disappointed lawmakers haven’t come together to bring about structural reforms.
“I realize change is hard, but we do need change and the number one priority for us is to grow the economy and we continue to bleed out our manufacturing base and lose thousands of jobs in the manufacturing and transportation sectors.”
